Today (or yesterday? or both?) was really a whirl-wind, and I'm realizing I don't have any concept of what time it is or when the time passed, but I'm here!
I'm tired as all get out, but I wanted to write a few notes while they're fresh. We really started the trip on Friday afternoon. We left for northern Illinois after the awesome Halloween part my coworkers threw for the boys. We made it in just before 9:00, stayed up until about 11:00, then I woke up around 6:00 to continue packing/rearranging/preparing.
I think we left sometime after 10:00 and make it to O'hare safely. My mom helped me get the bags in and checked (thankfully all were just barely under 50lbs). Security was a beast with the boys, but eh, it is what it is. Waiting around for the flight sucked too, but hard to avoid that.
The flight itself was pretty awesome. The Alitalia flight we took had touch screens, complete with abou 45 movies, 10 games, and other info on there. And next to it was a USB cable that I used to charge my devices. The attendants even gave the kids an activity pack with puzzles and such. As far as flights go, it as pretty awesome.
The boys did ok, for the most part, until Rome, and then Aiden spent two full hours crying and screaming in the airport. I hated the Rome airport anyway. They had us de-board/board with stairs instead of at the gate, and there was no place to sit in the terminal. I do have to say this though, the security guards there were really nice. One pulled me aside and put me in a shorter line and another joked with Caedmon and helped put his backpack on.
The flight to Istanbul was less glitsy in terms of airline amenities, but it was much shorter and more bearable for the boys. Flying over the city was really cool - you really got a feel for just how big the place is - all you saw was city from horizon to horizon.
After that we had our first taxi ride in Istanbul. And I thought Germany was bad! They make up their own lanes here. So glad we don't have a car here!
