We drove to Berlin with Josh over the 4-day Valentine's weekend. We stayed a little outside of the city so we wouldn't have to drive downtown, but ended up driving by all of the main attractions on the way in anyway. The first night we were tired and just stayed at the hotel and had dinner there.
The second day we headed out early. We parked at the Dom and walked past the Rotes Rathaus and over the Schloss Brucke. We stopped at a memorial and a bunch of little cafes and shops because it was so cold.
We made our way down Unter den Linden and saw the Bradenburg Gate. Then we walked to the Soviet Memorial and the Reichstag.
We went inside the Reichstag and it was pretty cool. We had to go through security to get in, but it was free to go inside the dome. We even got little German flag pins, which Caedmon loved.
After that we walked to a cafe, then down past the gate to the holocaust memorial. By then it had started seriously snowing. We continued down Potsdamer Platz, following the line of th wall the whole way. I was surprised there was still so much of it left. We walked by a big display where the secret Nazi headquarters were uncovered. It was cool but also getting really cold and wet. So we continued down to Checkpoint Charlie. Josh stopped there to get his passport stamped. After that we decided we'd just go back to the hotel. We thought we'd go back in the morning, but we woke up to another 3" of snow, so we bought souvenires at the hotel and decided to head home. We drove past victory tower on the way out and saw a couple of cool castles on the drive hom.
